i rember when i use to get 375-400 to the tank back in the days lol when my car was stock now the max i get is 320 on a full tank and stock tires. my mods are whisper lid, k&n filter ,pos 3.73 ,aulminum driveshaft, catco high flow cat, magnaflow 2.5 cat back, 1.9 rockers with ls6 spring and ls1 retainers, hpp3, hypertec 160 t-stat, msd coil pack with msd wires
Just to let you know... I'm pretty certain that thermostat you installed is what is affecting your MPG.
naw i had my t-stat on for years before my mpg took a drop i think it mite be the tires but also mybe the o2s they have 70k on them and egr has 144k on it but that not throwing code though
2000 camaro rs:whisperlid, 2.5 magnaflow exhaust, catco high flow cat, fast toys cai, 3.73, 160 power stat, msd 8.5 wires ngk iridium spark plugs, hpp3, zzp w/p and alt. under drive pullies, 1.9 Rockers/LS6 Springs with ls1 retainers
I dont understand if wider tires = more friction and more friction = worse mpg the friction is causing the engine to work harder which is why there is a loss in mpgs. right? with the engine working harder it would seem to me like it would take more power.
Your engine will make the same amount of power, no matter how big or small your tires are. With more friction, you need more power (engine picks up more load), to maintain the same speed. More load = more fuel. More fuel for same speed = less mpg.
im sorry if your worried about gas milage, then get a prius or a bicycle.
I have 275's in the front and 315's in the rear and noticed NO CHANGE in my gas mileage, maybe you just drove it heavy footed or got more red lights during that drive
Cars are funny, same year and type of car MPG will vary, no matter what you do to it.
Same as some cars are faster than others from the factory. Maybe the timing degree is different, maybe cam lobes fuel injection system different. I have been through this. knowing my car dosen't get the same MPG as it should. People buy the Hondas etcc... and have the same issues. some get great MPG, others suck
well came to find out that i guess it wasnt my tires that was makeing me lose mpg it was my fuel pump. it was going out and one day it finally gave out but when i fixed it i got mostly all mpg back :)

Anyone care to explain why that would be the case, I am not doubting you, just don't understand how a fuel pump could affect fuel mileage. Does it have something to do with improper line pressure?

Me too, im running 275F and 315R, and I get 360 highway, and 400+ on the highway. even after installing 3.23 ( put a 94 rear in after breaking my 96 rear) I saw no difference in mileage. I know that a bigger tire creates more friction, but guys, its not that big of a upgrade tread width in my book compared to what bbplayer and me have stuffed under our cars. its something else, maybe a tuneup is needed, or maybe a filter is changed or his cats might me clogged a little, who knows, but it should be address considering the amount of mileage we are getting compared to his car.
