  • New Wheels... Low Trac Light

I put corvette wagon wheels on my car this past weekend, and when i was on the highway today, once i went above 65-68 mph, my Low Trac light came on. It didn't turn off until i went back under 65, and it limited my throttle and wouldnt let me go WOT. Once I turned the ASR off, the problem went away, any ideas?

im not real sure bout it but you might want to check the air pressure but also make sure the wheels are balaced and the tires dont have any bubbles in them and you might want to make sure the new wheels have the offset needed for firebirds and camaros

If your tires are not the same size your traction control and ABS aren't going to work.

Yep, and 65mph is where the threshold is that your back wheels are turning faster enough than the front wheels that it sets off the low trac light.

take your ABS light out, or get different size rims

I ask again, what's the aspect ratio of your tires? Staggered rims are fine as long as you have tires that are similar in circumference which can be accomplished with getting the right aspect ratio tires. (the middle number [i.e. 245/50/16] in the tire size)

For instance, if you have 245/45/17 up front with 275/35/18, this would net you a diameter within a tenth of an inch and a circumference within 3 tenths of an inch. If, say you have 45 series tires in the back with the same size front tires, your circumference would be almost 7 inches bigger out back, telling your car that your rear tires are moving over 5mph faster than your front at 65mph, setting off the low trac light.

45 in the front 40 in the rear (ps. i know what an aspect ratio is, i was just much too lazy to walk outside cause its so cold)

^ that's a full inch difference between the two tire diameters

So the front would be reading about 3mph faster than the back at 65. I'm not sure what the threshold is for triggering the low trac light, but that could be your problem. Start by cleaning off your speed sensors, and see if that helps any.
