the tires on these rims are pretty much at the end of their life... so when i replace them i should go with a A/R of 50 on the front and 40 on the back?
245/45/17 up front and 275/35/18 out back will get you very close to the same size front and back if you like the way your front tires look now.
245/50/17 and 275/40/18 will give you almost exactly the same size, but usually people want less of a sidewall when they go with bigger wheels, so it's up to you on what you think looks good.
soI can leave the fronts for now, and put 275/35/18's on the rear and lose that pesky light? oh and how much do you think my speedo is off right now? (if any)
Currently your speedo is less than 2% too fast, going off your front wheels, and less than 2% slow from the back. If you replaced the rears with 275/35/18, you will eliminate the problem, (assuming this is in fact why you are getting the light) yes.

go to discounttires.com and enter in the year of corvette you got the wheels off and it will give you the stock and correct setup you need, which is as stated "245/45/17 up front and 275/35/18 out back".
I had that on my c5s and had no low traction light come on. Now I have 2005 18" and 19" c6 wheels and with the correct tires still get no low trac light.
