Re: drum to disc conversion
I'd tell you to search on here and look at switching out the whole rearend and get diffrent gears, LSD, and rear calipers all for about 250.
There are tons of threads on this but heres one thats not too old and says what all you'll need.

I didn't do the drum to disc conversion, but I did do the 93-97 to 98-02 disc brake conversion....If you do convert your drum brakes I would highly reccommend going straight to the larger style brakes...Y87 Package

do that or call junk yards. Where are you located? shipping can be pricey but you could drive a few hundred miles and pick one up for 50 bucks in gas or so.Originally posted by kalaI'll have buttsecks with Richard Simmons!

Re: drum to disc conversion
Doing the rear drum to disc isn't expensive if you look around main things are backing plates, calipers, parking brake lines. Brake pads I would get new along with rotors. I think I spent total along with the new parts $200, also draining the rear and new fuild and gasket so maybe $230 total. If you get the whole diff. , Your still looking for the parking brake lines, pads and rotors= another $150 or so at least.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake

Re: drum to disc conversion
i just want to do the drum to disc conversion and not swap the whole rear end. i already put in 3.42 gears and a lsd.
the main reason i want to do the swap is because drums just flat out suck in the rain and they make my car look cheap.
finding all the parts is gonna be a pain but i'm definitely gonna try it this summer after i do some other stuff. i'm planning on pulling the heads off and getting them machined and replacing the rear main oil seal because it has a small leak that drips right on the down pipe
thanks for the help!Last edited by 96nastybird; 04-24-2008, 12:29 AM.

You really don't need new parts just rotors and brake pads. Calipers (no more than 75,000 miles) Parking brake cables(no more than 100,000) and backing plates( doesn't matter as along as their intact, heavy steel there). Thats just me though, and what I did and their still working good.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake
