  • Master Cylinder Problems!

Last Thursday, apparently my car needed its master cylinder to be replaced. Yesterday, I was searching for a master cylinder down here, but the search was a pain in the butt. The only choice I got to solve the problem fast was a refurbished master cylinder from AutoZone. After testing my car with the "new" part on, honestly, i'm not happy with it, how the car is braking. My car, two days before the problem started was braking even better than that "new" part. The only thing good it has is its lifetime warranty.

Can you people tell, what have you done on this case, how much have you spent on this replacement, and which is the best option for our cars?

    Thank you!

What is the problem? In what way are you not happy with the braking?

Many times when the master cylinder goes out, it leaks brake fliud in to the brake booster, damaging it, therefore causing the brakes to act more like manual brakes, in that you must push much harder to get the brakes to do their job.

well, I hope that's not it...well I just feel like my braking was a lot better before losing my master cylinder than withe the new one.

better in what way? The car stopped faster, it was easier to stop the car faster, the pedal feels different?

If you're going, say 20 mph, and you throw your body into the pedal, can you engage the abs?

I hate to ask this, but did you bleed all the brakes after you changed it?

my car stopped better before the other master cylinder had to be changed...there aren't any noises. The brake were bleeded after, but I think maybe weren't bleeded enough, i don't know...practically haven't had time to do it again or at least to check it.

Well, changing to a new master cylinder obviously put alot of air in the system, and the sad thing is that the air is at the very beginning of the system when yoyu change a master cylinder, so ALOT of fluid has to bled through before the air will make it out. The master cylinder has to be "primed', if you will.

Have you bled it from the ABS module?
