  • Brake Conversion

alright. I converted my 96 Y87 front disc brakes (the little 10.7" rotors) to the bigger and beefier 11.9" 98+ rotors, which involved a steering knuckle upgrade...all the good stuff. So my question is, when you upgrade the brakes, is there a parameter in the PCM's binary file that has to be changed for the ABS to still work? Or is it simply the wheel speed sensor? I'm stumped here. I can't figure out which one of these it is. Do I need a 98+ brake module?

Nothing in the PCM pertaining to ABS. Did you scan for the ABS code? That kinda makes it simple.

Well if I had a scanner that interfaced with the ABS module, i'd do that. Any ideas otherwise?

Everything works fine. You don't have to do anything.

He is asking why his ABS light is on after the conversion. Wanting people to guess so he can replace parts.

Actually I'd call it asking people if they've experienced similar issues to find out what course of action to take.

I don't replace parts on pointless whims.

                Re: Brake Conversion

go to your local autozone, I believe they can scan ABS systems.. but if not, it doesnt hurt to call and ask...

if anything, take it to your dealer. cant be all that much to scan, but again, asking them the same question doesnt cost a thing, and they might be able to direct you in the right direction..

How simple is it to have it scanned? Anything else is a guess. This is the second thread you asked this question in, no one replied in your first. Maybe someone with a crystal ball will chime in give you the codes causing your ABS light.

I read it as, he has done the conversion and the ABS doesn't work. He wants to know if the PCM needs a file changed or it's a sensor causing the ABS not to work. Either way the answer is to SCAN it for ABS codes, Not ask people what went bad on their ABS.
