  • Removing front brake caliper?

So I'm trying to change the front brake pads on my 97 Camaro.

I used a 3/8 hex set to remove the 2 bolts from the back of the caliper. I thought it would just slide off and I could put the new pads in. But the damn thing wont come off of the rotor. I've changed brakes on my Grand prix before where the caliper just slides off and thats it. Whats up with this?

Use muscle. Knock it off with a hammer or something.

When I come across something thats been exposed to extreme heat, rust, ect.. I like trying a penetrating oil called PB Blaster. Auto Zone has it in a spray can. I swapped out a set of rotors on my Tundra truck and had to remove the back mounting bolts for the caliper. Did a spray, waited 10 or 15 mins and presto !

Okay so the calipers on the 97 Camaro do just slide off? Its like the brake pads are holding it on the rotor.

That's exactly what's happening. Unless you didn't take the right bolts off.. but it should be obvious which ones are holding the caliper on.

Pry the inner brake pad against the rotor to release some of the pressure the piston is putting on the brake pad. Thats what I do and it just comes right off once the piston is no longer applying pressure to the rotor.
