  • Recommendations for rotors/pads

For around $200-$250 what is a good set-up for some strong front brakes? I need front rotors and front brake pads.

    I'm thinking these rotors: http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brake...ar=&perfCode=S

I just hope the ones they send me have 5 holes instead of 6...

and I need some pads- thinkin of these hawks http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brake...ar=&perfCode=S

I read somewhere that certain brake pads don't go together well with certain rotor types; like a ceramic pad and a slotted rotor... would the two items above work together? Composite brake pads and cryogenically treated rotors?

    Thanks- Bill

hey bill depending on your year car, i would first do the 98+ front brake upgrade if you are looking to improve stopping power then go from there.. just my 2 cents

before i went to tirereack.com I would go to advanced or something for half the price on the rotors

to be honest I heard there is no real advantage of going cross drilled and slotted....I have slotted now with ceramic brake pads and don't notice a difference over the stock rotors, EXCEPT, when it is raining out she stops a little better....IMO not worth the extra 50$/rotor I spent...

I did that last time about 2 years ago. Whatever brand rotors I bought- they are corroding now. Don't buy rotors from advanced auto parts.

R1 concepts always has good deals on rotors(slotted/drilled zinc coated), and for pads I usually get Satisfied ceramic's. But I think any ceramic pad would be better than most.

I got my rotors from ws6store. Great deal.

USP- I have a squeek from my front drivers wheel, its a broken caliper bolt or something. Could be the same?

^^Ceramic will let you rims be cleaner , they don't give off alot of dust, they are better when they heat up. Stop alot quicker.

i ALWAYS get the cheapest break pads from autozone. i put them on everyones cars....they are the cheapest and they are amazing pads. i had them on my camaro for 3 years and only changed them when i put drilled and slotted rotors on my car. had %75 of the pads left. got the same pads again with the drilled and slotted set up. and yes i drag race with them. they have no problem stopping me

                          Re: Recommendations for rotors/pads

I bought a set of Raybestos Thermoquiet ceramic pads (front) for my wife's Sienna, along with their Advanced Technologies rotors. Its been on for about a week now, but we had to make a few trips back to the mechanics, to adjust the clips that were making a thumping noise.

I thought it was noteworthy to share that during the course of troubleshooting, the mechanic pulled back into the parking lot with both front brakes smoking. Apparently, he was stress testing it, and drove with his foot on the brakes.

The rotors didn't warp, nor were the front rims dirty either. I'm going to do my Firebird later next week.

Dont mean to threadjack, but does anyone have problems with rotors warping, after braking hard? Its only a problem for me when I brake hard or frequently. Not to mention that its developed a viscious squeal from one or all of the wheels...arrgh!!
