I have me thinking that maybe why the person sold itso it seem as though you have to get a complete rear end or have yours sorted out the flange the holds the rear caliper have the rotors checked and also the axles, the whinning can be coming from in the differential maybe a pinion bearing it all depends on when are you hearing the noise,if on accelerating or decelerating?but deal with one problem at a time if you can.
mmm about the whinning, it can be heard at cruising speed, to be honest. when my mechanic took a look at it, he told that everything inside looked like new. as far as I know, with the brakes, he only installed them with new pads, adjusted the e-brake, and that's it. I don't know if he took a detailed look to the brakes.
Well well well, your mechanic can't look at a rearend and tell that all is well,he can't see bearing wear, improper meshing of the gears by just opening it and looking, all of what I called can cause whinning, about the brakes the bracket which holds the caliper maybe bent, and what have me thinking for what is wrong that this rearend may have been in an accident or very bad abuse like low oil at one point,so I would overhaul the rearend look through everything leaving nothing that's my 2 cents

well....what I meant by saying that he looked at it, is that he saw the gears without any wear at all.
and you are talking about pinion bearings and axle bearings?
and...what do you mean by improper meshing of the gears?
There IS an additive the GM dealerships sell for about $15. It's specifically made for the Posi rears, and you add it to the axle fluid. But, I don't think that's going to make a difference right now.
Do you still have the original rear from your car? If so, inter-change the axles, then buy and replace the bearings & seals...then go from there.
www.Partsamerica.com (advanced auto) has rear wheel bearings for $20.00 per pair, and the seals are $5.00 each. I looked it up for a 2000 Camaro 5.7l, which should be the same.
well....the right axle is bent...apparently an accident, was. and....as stupid as it sounds I don't have my original rear end.
because there are two options from Moser, one is:
Moser Engineering Replacement C-Clip Axles
Axles, Direct Fit, C-Clip, Rear, 1541H Steel, 28-Spline, Chevy/ Pontiac, Camaro/ Firebird, 7.5 in., Pair
and the other one is:

hey buddy, would you help me find a perfect replacement for my axles?
Instead of buying one new, just go to the Wanted Section here and post a thread asking for one. I'm SURE you can find one that will be much cheaper than a brand new one from summitt.
I just check on something Hockey said about make sure it is for a 2002 and not the earlier 93-97,but the research I carried out show that all 7.625 carries the same rearend parts actually from 82-02 so sometimes things people say can be misleading so I only say things that I know as facts, and to JBmetal as I have also said earlier that would have to be involve in an accident to have so many issues,in the end I think you may have to rebuild the complete rearend or take your chance with another one.
well...the one that you sent me from summit, the thing is that it can be shipped after January 1, and I need it ASAP...
and used ones...well maybe, but I dont want to have chance to receive a bent one, that's why I think it will be better a new one. but thanks buddy, you and Barbadian cleared out some doubts.

thanks for clearing my doubts Barbadian....and yes it was involved in an accident, but i don't think I'll need to rebuild the entire rear end. It responds practically perfect except for the axle shaft, and whinning I was hearing is because of the axle shaft bearing...THANK GOD....and it's not like like the torsen of the Camaro of a friend, which sounds really bad and still he WOT his Camaro...LOL!!!
what am I still asking to myself is why there are axle shafts for our differentials for 7.5" when ours are 7 5/8" from 82-02???
maybe it's kinda stupid, or maybe is because it fits as well...who knows!!

If you have Trac Control on the 98+, the axles are different. There's a gear mounted on the end of the axle near the hub. If you don't have TC, then they are all compatible.

I'm taking a shot-in-the-dark here, but maybe the 7 5/8" axle fits the Dana Rear. Not sure though. Our stock carriers are 7.5"
well...I dont have TC...
mmmm wait, which axle shaft should I buy then? for 7.5"or 7 5/8"???
Look at the axles on your new replacement rear. Do they have a gear looking thingy behind the hub (behind the lug studs).
I tried to draw a picture of the ring I'm talking about. Look at the attachment photo.
well, as far as I know, it shouldn't have it...it was sold as a none TCS rear end, it didn't had any TCS sensor on it or anything, it just needed my speed sensor over the differential, like all F-Body rear ends, to read the ABS Reluctor Ring signal on the differential. so...it shoudn't the only thing it came with was the abs sensors, which apparently I can't use because those sensors are not used on V6's with drum brakes, and that I didn't knew before, until I had that axle on my hands for switching.
the freaking...thing, is that I can't check it right now...i live on an apartment, and I ain't got the space to do it. I'll have to wait for tomorrow, and go to my mechanics to do it, and it'll be more time to wait for the shafts. :S
Hey guys. For starters I’ve always been a big car guy, I love all types of cars and can appreciate all types of engineering. I’ve always been a Chevy...
