i've got a 93 3.4 firebird, i think the stock swaybar setting for this car is 28mm/15 or 17 but i'm not sure.
either way, would it be beneficial to upgrade the front sway bar to a 32mm and keep the rear one stock? I hear if you go rear bigger and front stock you can run into issues but not the other way around.
Yes. You can upgrade the front and keep the rear stock bar. In fact, you don't want to upgrade the rear bar without getting some aftermarket shocks/springs to match.
An ideal setup for our cars would be a larger front bar, like a 30mm or 32mm, and a smaller rear bar, such as 17mm or 19mm. I'm currently running a 32mm front hollow bar and the stock 15mm rear bar, and am happy with it.

Im running a 1LE 32/19 set up. Some say the 19mm in the rear will give you over steer and effect in you in bad weather. I just went through a new england winter no problem. I like the way it feels.

thoughts?
you have it backwards...you can upgrade the front...I have a hollow 32 mm bar up front and the stocker in the back...love the way it handles...really flattened the car out...
Pace do you have a 98+ car? I'm 99.9% sure that my stock bar was a 30mm...and its in the forsale section to (i think)...I believe the 98+ cars had the 28mm bar though...
I've been running a ST 35mm with a 21 mm rear with my other suspension mods listed on my homepage and it is very well set up. I have the QA-1 's up front set on 5 and just moved my Optima batt. to the rear. I had to make a quick brake stop on Mon. coming back from some Dr. appts. I got distracted and the Van ahead of me braked quick to a dead stop and I had to mash the brakes. It stopped on a dime, tires slid about maybe a foot going about 35-40MPH, I was surprised. Nice to have a good suspension, I took off my SLP STB(will be selling it also) when I got the QA-1 shocks on about a month ago, the ST 35mm front sway is more than enough with the QA-1's for the front with 300lb springs. I know this isn't a cornering story, sorry but a good setup will brake straight for ya too, as I found out. But I always see a 32mm and 19mm going togrhter as a great setup along with springs/shocks etc.

ok thanks guys. apparently it would be "doable" to upgrade the front and leave the rear stock.
now my next question.
I don't do any kind of autoX in fact, this is just really my dd with the occasionall straight shot take off. Would upgrading the front sway bar really help me at all since i don't do much cornering?

Yes, mine is a 99. It came with a 28mm front bar and I upgraded to a 1LE 32mm bar last year. I'm also currently running the (tiny) stock 15mm rear bar with stock shocks. Just to keep things straight, here's the size breakdown.

Running a larger rear bar, like a 19mm, can be problematic on the stock springs and shocks. It tends to cause oversteer in those emergency situations, such as jerking the wheel. But that setup should be fine with aftermarket shocks/springs.

It would help to smooth out some of the leaning feeling or uneasiness of our cars on corners (at least that's what I've noticed). It's mostly beneficial for the daily driver and/or autocross people and is considered the best bang for the buck suspension mod. Just be sure to pick up a 32mm sway bar, since you're already running a larger 30mm bar.

For a straight line no, people usually disconnect the front sway bar, but for a DD I think a 32mm is very beneficial, especially if you wanna have some fun around corners now and then.
i can get a 32mm for 55 shipped.... i think i'm gonna bite.
i will have a question later however on whether or not the end link set i bought already will work with the new sway bar. i bought a poly end link set so i'll post it up later and maybe you guys can help me figure it out.
A bigger rear sway is suppose to help at the track for a straight line take off, and like said remove front bar for weight red. and to let the car's front end come up. I bought my ST 35mm and 21 mm rear with all poly endlinks and bushings for $120 off a guy on craigs list. He was a hard core auto X guy with a LS1 and went with all hollow setup for weight red.

and a front swaybar is not the best bang for your buck suspension mod unless you are not making any power. lol. There are tons of other items I would put above a front bar
