    Re: ls1 brakes

I think the calipers are different,
arnt they aluminum, v6 are steel?

But this is an interesting question, and I should of used the search tab...
to update the braking system, you need the LS1 spindles, rotors, calipers, I believe the hub bearings are the same...

Course the C5 calipers are going at a decent price on ebay right now, so slap on a bracket and roll with it.. lol
MISC: 01 parts. Some interior, T top kit, seats etc.

see, this is what is confusing me, i have read that they used better brakes because of the increased power, then i read this:

Q: Why is this brake setup called “LS1” brakes?
A: It is a lot easier to type LS1 instead of “98+ Camaro/Firebird”. In 1998 GM introduced the LS1 engine into the F-bodies that same year they also put bigger brakes and a few other goodies. I am just using LS1 as an easy way to identify the 12-inch, dual piston caliper brake setup on these cars. It is important to note that the "LS1" brakes also came on the V6 98+ Camaro / Firebirds also.

ok, after doing some searching, i have come to the conclusion that ALL brakes on 98+ camaros are the exact same, whether it was a v6 or v8

        can anyone confirm this?

          Yep. From another thread:

ALL 93-97 V6 and V8 have the SAME front brakes - single piston.

ONLY the V8 and Y87 V6 have rear discs.

ALL 98-02 V8 and V6 have the same front and rear brakes - front 2-piston, rear single piston.

          Read the Tech Database!

I have installed the 93-97 rear discs (replaced drums) and the 98+ front brakes on my Bird.

OEM C5 and some aftermarket brackets require cutting the spindles. But there also a few conversion brackets that don't require cutting.

98+ Fcar are all the same on all 4 corners.

What an improvement over the 93-97 cars:bowdown:
