Recently there has been a winging noise coming from my engine and I didn't know what it was. Later I found out my p/s fluid was low so I added some. When I stop and get out of the car I can notice it smoking from under the car and I think the fluid is leaking onto my exaust pipe. And after looking down into my engine bay there looks to be dried up fluid under the ps pump. This is a 3.4L engine so do you guys think that its the pump itself or the hoses maybe cracked. When i'm turning it starts to rumble abit because I can feel the p/s going in and out, but when I look into the p/s pump there is fluid in there at the time.....whats going on?

id say its burned up....running them with low fluid levels will trash them quick....id bet on the p.s. pump going south on ya.

easiest way to do it would be jack the front end up, start the car and as your looking under the car or from the front of the car at the pump have a friend or close one move the wheel back and forth. if it's a hose you'll see it squirting or leaking from the source...also it if it's leaking from the pump you'll be able to identify it better while someone else is turning the wheel.

Anything is possible but I'm betting it may be your rear main seal leaking on the Y-Pipe of your exhaust. Has the car been sitting for a while? Check under you car and look at the piping of your exhaust and where it meets the Y-Pipe and see if there is any oil residue on them. Is this a manual or auto? If the rear main seal has been leaking and you had the front up on jacks for a period of time oil could leak into the clutch and the result would be smoke from the clutch. Just throwing ideas out there...sure there may be a few more suggestions. What does it smell like, the smell of the smoke may help diagnose it better.

Watch out because power steering fluid is flammable. If it is leaking on the exhaust you need to fix it.
I had a Honda Accord a few years ago and it developed a power steering leak. Next thing I knew there were flames under the hood. Luckily they burned themselves out and it was not a major fire...
