  • Tire help?

Ok ive got a few ?s first what is better overall for tires for the stock size 16" rims? 245/50/16 or 235/55/16. I will be using these tires all year and I am going to university of Kansas and live in iowa so i will run into some snow and ice. And i am also stuck between two diff tires. The general altimax hp or Continental contiextreme contact.

I had the contiextreme contact. I drove in the new england winter with them. They did pretty damn good being they are more a performance tire. Ive also put about 7k miles on them and the tread life still look really good.

i have 235/55/16 goodyear american eagles (wal-mart 'special'). they are decent enough. the past 2 winters were no big deal. and after 80,000 miles they still have a good bit of tread left...

the 245/50/16 will handle better because there is more contact with the road, and less sidewall to cause flex, but whether or not you will be able to tell the difference between the two, probably not much if at all. they are pretty close in overall diameter, but the 235/55/16 will be a tad bigger, which will theoretically produce a smoother ride, but again, likely you won't tell.

yeah, i don't know if you'd notice much riding on them, but i would go with the 245.
It's wider and should perform better and with the lower profile sidewall, they'll probably look at little better too.
