Basically you have to build the best car you can for less than the dollar amount of the year you are in.

I helped on this car the last 2 years.




It placed 3rd overall, 5th in drag racing, 2nd in the Auto-x and 3rd in the concourse - top three teams for 2010 are going to VIR this summer to compete in the Ultimate Track Car Challenge. Grassroots magazine wanted to see what guy with $2000 race cars would do against a tough field.

Shoot man, that thing is impressive! It must've been how far away the video was, but it looked deceivingly slow to me. My bad! That's awesome, I bet that was a lot of fun!

Yeah no joke lol.

Car weighs 2160lbs with a full tank of gas and we estimate it's somewhere around 300whp. It's a Holset HX35 turbo pushing 21psi, 35# injectors.

This year we are replacing the rotating assembly with a 2.7l and using the later model cylinder head yielding an 8.3:1 compression ratio vs the current 8.9:1, installing a roll cage and making the car more aerodynamic.

If we had enough money left in the budget, we would have brought slicks, but were at $1960 as the car sat so we had to settle for a 2.0 60' 12.3@117mph.

We are building a new car for $2011 and already shopping for another for $2012. We got a call asking for a photo-shoot from BMW Performance Magazine in March, but we blew the HG on the last drag run of the day (12.9et) and need to get the car back running by then! We were featured on page 50-55 of GRM Feb 10 issue, and they will be featuring the challenge in April.

Next major event after some shakedowns at the local auto-x. New head gasket, stroked to 2.7, ported/rebuilt/welded head, new shocks.
