• Best way (i.e. cheapest) to replace a windshield?

    Awwww FRICK!,

Last night after work, I was going out to dinner at IHOP at about 10:30 at night with a co-worker. So I'm following her there, and I notice the windows are a bit fogged so I turn on the front and rear defrost. Now mind you, when I bought this car it had a small crack (which I had assumed to have been fixed, stupid me) in the center of the windshield, down low. So I'm driving and blasting my Primus, next thing I hear is crrrriiiickkkkkkk! I'm like, WTF Mate? I thought since it was cold outside something warmed up and shifted somewhere in the frame or something... when I reached a light I saw that the tiny crack grew about 1.5 feet! Awwwww frick! Now I gotta replace it (not because it impairs my vision, it's like a safety/anal thing, ya know?).

Any ideas on best and cheapest way to go that won't give me troubles down the road with leaking seals, etc.?

          Keeeerap,

Yeah looks like I'd have to pay the deductible to get that glass replaced, which is $500 so it's not worth it to go through insurance. Bah, I still need to talk to a claims rep to make sure that Colorado doesn't require the insurance to cover it for free, due to it being a "safety" issue. However, with all the people around here driving with broken glass it looks like I'll be shelling out the dough.

Looks like it'll be $211.03 before tax installed by a mobile unit with new glass and a lifetime warrantee... I think I can do that... Bah, that was the cost of a U-Bend and Resonator delete!!! :(

I am positive on my policy glass has its ownd deductible which is like $25 or $50 compared to the $500 for any other type of claim. I know some of them dont have one at all... its like glass is its own little thing.

Yeah, been colder than usual. Not to mention it's been raining a whole heck of a lot too. Ellik, I'll contact Geico again and talk to a claims rep and see if there's a different deductible. Thanks for the heads-up, I don't wanna lose any more money than I have to.

I did, however find out that I get a pro-rated amount of money back from the warranty I put on the Camaro when I purchased it, so I'm gettin' some cash, but it's going to pay off the down I put on my credit card... bad me.. lol I hope I get more than the amount to pay the down and replace the windshield...

i got my windshield replaced and it was like $219 installed for a new molding and new windshield.

this is a california company, but they say they work nationwide. might want to check them out, this is where i got it from.

Thanks for the info, I got a quote from Safelite Auto Glass (who were also recommended by my insurance company) for $211.03+tax installed with lifetime warranty on OEM quality glass with the factory-correct tint up top. They'll install it while I'm at work, also for free. I'll probably do it while on my 24-hour break.

I appreciate everyone's help, not much I can do at this time except suck it up and press on.

yep insurance will usually replace it, did you double check with an agent on it? In FL they replace it for free by law.

                          but $211 ain't bad pricing.

Yeah, they don't do it out here... they seemed suspicious that I had just bought the car and then the window breaks a few days later... I've been a member for 4 years! I don't make false claims!!!
