  • Is my boss allowed to cut my hours drastically?

Well I do know that it is our "slow season" in my industry, and usually peoples hours get cut a little bit during this time. WELL the past 3 paychecks I have received have been on 25 or less hour weeks!!!!!!!

And today I got a call saying that they didn't need me to come it today or tomorrow, and on thursday I didn't need to come in until 12pm.

I feel my boss is being extra ****ty since I told him I would be leaving in a couple months.

Is he allowed to randomly cut my hours like this, given I am a full time hourly employee?

i'd say unless your contract specifically says you'll receive a certain number of hours each week, yes he can do that. thats why you should only give a 2 week notice instead of a month ;)

You're not salaried so he can do what he wants with your hours.

If I was the boss I would give more hours to those that were staying as well.

Unless your salary, or hired under contract he can cut hours as he sees fit. You could just tell him you need more hours, he might be understanding. Just explain you understand his point, but you need some more hours. Then you can always beg.

Yep, what he is doing is all nice and legal.

Unless, you have a contract, or you're in a union job and what he is doing is against the contract. If thats the case (union), e-mail me and I can help you out further.

Exactly what everyone else is saying. If your under contract, check to see the minimal hours. Mine is 24, and being a fulltime college student, I'm happy with that.

Other than that, enjoy the time off!

If my boss did that i'd find a different job REALLY fast. My old boss didn't do that to me. I told him a month in advanced so he could train somebody to replace me. When i told him i would be quiting i told him that i would train somebody in and pointed out the fact that i let him know WAY ahead of time. He gave me tons of hours the last month i worked there. But i was also very honest with him about my leaving and he appreciated that.

sine you are moving to Florida, keep in mind (for your future employment) that the vast majority of employees in Florida work under "employment at will" which means that there are no minimum hours and the employer can terminate your employment at any time, including reasons such as "I just felt like firing people that day."

Of course, an employer cannot discriminate against protected classes of employees or on the basis of race, nationality, etc - but as long as the employer does not do that - they can fire you at any time for any reason.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.
