  • JEEP thinking of buying this...

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...520805198&rd=1

My question is with the options installed would it be decent on longer trips? What is the purpose/benefit of the locker.

What about the price, it looks decent compared to other ebay jeeps/ when you consider the mods. Just wanted some opinions.

Also, this would be my work vehicle, I drive anywhere between 10 to 200 miles a day and occasionally have to go off-road. (the off road part will be fine i think)

That's a pretty good price. A locker does just that. It locks the 2 rear wheels. They both only turn one way. Detroit makes a great product, but if it's a full time locker you're going to have trouble driving it around corners. It will hop. Sometimes really bad. MTR tires are the best you can buy. Good on pavement and outstanding on rock and mud. Looks like it has a ProComp lift which isn't top of the line, but they are pretty good. Even has a ProComp steering stabilizer. Looks like a Dana 30 front diff and a Dana 35 or 35c rear diff which are kind of weak, but they are standard equipment on alomost all Jeeps. Dana 44s were an option on some models. I had the Dana 30/35 on mine and they never failed. I would try to find out about that locker, but otherwise I'd go for it. You can go to www.jeepsunlimited.com or www.jeepcrazed.com and ask around as well.

The locker locks the wheels together for maximum traction offroad. They will cause tire chrip going around tight corners or parking.

One suggestion, is mixing your daily driver and your off road vehcile isn't the best plan... You break something off road on Saturday, and if you can't fix it on Sunday, you're taking a bus to work on Monday.

Also, Jeeps aren't the most comfortable vehciles on the highway (lots of wind noise).

That looks like a hell of a Jeep though!

I asked him about the locker thing, and am waiting a response.
The coolest thing is the CB radio, I was wanting to put one in my firebird like hide it in the glove box or something. Something to do while driving between huntington, wv and uniontown, pa every weekend. "ANYONE GOT A SMOKEY REPORT" lol the bandit is back. haha

Really.. it's not too bad of a machine. It looks as if it has been wheel'd, but not too hard by the looks of the straight body. You have some nice wheelin spots down there near WV and could have fun with that machine. As Mike said, TJ's are kinda noisey, but with a hardtop it's not bad at all.. and in the summer... you'll love the doors off and top hiding in the garage (unless it's raining).

As for the CB in the bird... look at the Cobra WS-75SX. It's an all in one handheld with a remote box. That only think you will see on my Jeep is the 4ft Firestik and radio hangin from the mirror :D

If you can swing it... go look at it, drive it, THEN make your choice. Jeeps are everywhere and you can do mods is you have the right tools and an extra pair of hands. Did my lift in the driveway with hand tools. See sig for pictures.
