i wonder if a roll bar would have helped in a situation like this? maybe i should get one knowing all the dumb **** i do, or maybe i should stop doing dumb ****.. or both?

A roll bar wouldn't do much if you wrap your car around a tree. If you meant a roll CAGE, then I'm sure the extra enforcement would help. But I personally believe that if you're going to get a roll cage in your car just for safety purposes on the street in a not-very-fast v6 f-body, I'd say you might as well have a fireproof suit on and a helmet too.
