lol I laugh at those no/low carb diets... you don't need simple carbs (high glucogenic index) unless your blood sugar drops dramatically (like after or during a very intense workout), you need complex carbs as a part of balanced diet, including fat and protein. It should go like this: 40-30-30 (40-protein, the rest is complex carbs and fat).
BUT, the caloric intake is what makes all the difference between gaining weight and losing it. If you intake more calories than you need per day, you will gain weight. If you intake less calories than you need per day you lose weight.
It's just that simple...
