Good advice for buying a used car? Numero uno: Inspect the car closely and make note of every little individual problem i.e. tear in the seat, chips in the paint, etc... By doing that, it gives you backing for takling the price down. If they're asking 5000, you could probably get it for less than 4

Personally I'd look for one with lower mileage. You don't know what the car's been through or how it was maintained. Heck, I just bought an 02' with 15,000 miles on it. But anyway, your best bet would be to start with a carfax, if your gonna go for it.
power windows and t-top seals are obvious. If you take it on a test drive and its an auto pay attention to the shift into second out of first. Listen for rattles on the interior. Nothing big and most can be fixed easily, but they do get annoying. Plan on replacing speakers if its got monsoon. $5k sounds good though.
wanted 5k for my 98 manual with 120k... i talked them to 4k after everything, car was in excellent condition. one owner the whole 120k miles. so that sounds like a good price to me. pretty much if it seems ok with u then get it, but everthing like window motors and stuff like that can be fixed easily. but i would check the ttops for sure. maybe u can take it to a car wash if they don't car and just let water run over the top. good luck

oh and the breaks. Check for warped rotors. josh98bird is right, everything thats been mentioned can be fixed easily, but if it helps you to talk the price down then good.
Not much going on, replaced my Kenwood double din stereo with a Pioneer double din, the Kenwood had problems. Then replaced my power inverter for my reverse...
