  • New carb is in WOOT!!

My dad's new 1150 CFM Holley Dominator carb came in the other day. This big f'er is a huge improvement over the old Holley 750 CFM that he had on it.

BTW, this is going on his built '67 Chevelle SS. :D

^^After the motor is done. We pulled it out and took it to a machinist who bored it out from a 396 to 440. Custom steel crank, custom forged rods/pistons and rebuilt flowbenched heads. New cam too, but I dont know the specs on it. He's having the tranny rebuilt as well.

First dyno run was 283 rwhp. After some tuning brought it back and did 368 rwhp (on a Mustang dyno). The best 1/4 time was 12.53 @ 110 on a cool night with MT slicks and skinnies.

We hope to have the motor back next month and ready to race by mid October.

my god can you bore it out anymore! why did you just get a 454 and build that up? i mean a 440 is close enough and probably would have cost you less to get that instead of boring out the 396

We threw that idea around a little bit, but my dad wanted to keep the orig motor and just build it up. We thought about boring it all the way to a 454, but the cylinder walls would be too thin for the hp it will be making. It would be fine to bore out that much for a street/show car, but too much for a race car.

I will try to dig up some pics of the car itself later tonight.

I don't much about carb other than I drive an '88 pick up that's carb but isn't there an ideal carb size for a certain size of engine?

Wouldn't this give the engine too much air and fuel? More than what it can handle?

When I use to live with my parents, I had a neighbor that put a huge carb in his El Camino and let just say it wasn't a good thing. The car was fast but the engine didn't last long.

^^True, but this is a completely built engine from bottom to top. Its not a lil' ole 350 small block either ;)

The engine builder also recommended that carb.
