...........A 31 year old Brian Reese will be in charge of dismantling General Motors and rewriting the rules of American capitalism. According to New York Times:

Mr. Deese’s role is unusual for someone who is neither a formally trained economist nor a business school graduate, and who never spent much time flipping through the endless studies about the future of the American and Japanese auto industries.

But now, according to those who joined him in the middle of his crash course about the automakers’ downward spiral, he has emerged as one of the most influential voices in what may become President Obama’s biggest experiment yet in federal economic intervention.

I know that GM took some bail out money from the Fed. and the Gov. has a stake at this, but whatever happen to letting bankrupt companies work their way out. I see a disaster for GM.

I think the GM we grew up knowing will become a thing of a past as the Gov. wants to turn it into an eco-friendly company that produces hybrid.

This is really breaking my heart.

remember, Mr. Obomam said that he didn't want to tell GM how to do things, as he assigns people to run it. Also, who says that the cars the gov't will force the "new GM" will be cars people will want to buy?

It's really quite the spectacle in Motown. Place is chock full of dealers and people who either develop, test, design or fix all the big three cars. In the past few months, there's been almost 20k lose their jobs. Dealers that are thriving one day are being gutted the next. And suppliers, don't get me started. This is probably the worst shape the auto industry has ever been in. In a town where as we grow up, we're taught that working the line or doing something automotive was the way to forge a living, this has hit everyone on every level hard. One thing's for sure, whatever the future holds, this moment in time will never be forgotten.

i'm still trying to figure out where the government gets the idea that it can start running a corporate business. and i agree, who's to say we will like what we see next from GM because of what the government wants the company to do?

its the gov't job to say "too bad do like every other business that losses too much money... file for bankruptcy and/or shut down".... i dont see them bailing out the small businesses in my area that are struggling, nor did they help out circuit city etc. the auto industry is no different from any other, if u dont adapt and overcome then u fail and die. but apparently we now live in a socialist nation :rant:

I must say that I am not happy at all with how Obama is handling things, not that I expected something great from him. It seems as though he is getting his way however, which is good for him. Can't wait to see how Government Motors does when it comes from the "ashes" as they are saying.

I'm thinking about the possibility of Obama hyper-inflation and the savings we've been working on for years becoming worthless.

Jimmy Carter's 13+% inflation could be child's play compared to the damage from Obamanomics.

^ ya tht trip to australia tht i am going on... i went ahead and reserved the price bc our dollar is tanking, making the trip cost more

when i first checked into the price in april 1 us dollar= 1.41 australian dollars.... now its 1.21 australian dollars and falling...
