  • My new ride (probably)

Ok here's the situation ..........i was looking for a car for my dad .........so, he said that he doesn't care if it's a auto or manual.......... i don't know how to drive 5spd gear box so i was looking for a car to learn how to drive stick but don't want to spend too much money on a good car.............so, finally i found this mazda .........it's a 5spd with V6 ...so, it's pretty quick .......... the clutch is nice and gearbox is pretty cool............after driving for couple days now, i really like this car............ interior is in immaculate condition ..........fit and finish is excellent............the car drives so smooth and it's like 8x more comfortable than the camaro............exterior is spotless........ i haven't decided yet, but i might just sell my camaro and keep this car to learn (get more skilled in) 5spd gearbox......i am graduating in august so then i can just buy like a 6spd t/a or ss ................. in the mean time i'll be pretty expert on manual gearbox..........this way i don't have to learn how to drive stick on a 350 HP car................don't get any wrong idea .....i LOVE f-bodies but this(getting expert in 5spd) is more important for me right now than owning a f-body...........btw, I am done with automatics ........no more handicapped automatic............what u guys think? ............. hit me up if anyone interested in my camaro.........i'll give any member of this board special consideration with their offer than other buyers...................... =)

Yeah once you look at other cars you realize how uncomfortable our cars really are LOL

I learned on a Mazda 5spd, actually the one I drove up to your place. Whole different world from a V8 Fbody, I ran a 15 something about 6 months after I got my Z28 first time down the strip. I'd say you'd be able to daily drive a M6 V8 with no problems by then but don't count on being an expert ;)

What do you mean by no more handicap auto? Auto's rule the drag strip.

people always give me s****. for driving an auto

"stick is faster" "you cant really drive"

but with 3.42s, posi and auto tranny...

            youll take a 5spd 3.23 all day

That is the truth. I just beat a v6 mustang because of that exact same setup in my car. I felt kinda bad because the kid clearly spent a few thousand on his car and mine is completely stock, almost. He shifted good but everytime he did I pulled on him more and more.

i am not saying auto is slow or something but i am just tired of automatic.......i feel like "handicapped" driving an automatic because there's nothing to learn..........but on the other hand , learning stick shift is like a whole different thing ............i have to say i am really enjoying learning the stick right now..............it's a lot of fun ............. i am just curious about a thing...... is 6spd manual gearbox is FASTER than a 5spd gearbox considering they both have same HP/torque? what's the advantage of having 6spd than 5spd? ........................

The 6speed allows for better mpg. I don't really know the performance advantage, but it helps on gas mileage. I just look at it like there's an extra over drive gear. Plus, cars with 6speeds produce enough power for the extra gear. Look at Lexus and they're 8 speed auto.

Pssssh, 8 speed... HAh! My Peterbilt has a 32 speed :p

And another thing: Learning to drive Manuel maybe fun... but is it really worth giving up Mr. Faulty? The Matzah may have a 5 speed but nobodys gonna care, its still a bland piece of unlevended bread. There are more exciting molehills in Kent than that car... and selling the Camaro would be a mistake. I say you just learn how to use the knobby thing and that extraeneous pedal, and then give the car to your dad and wait until you get an 8.

Again, i am NOT going to keep this car! it's only for a little time ...time it takes for me to become comfortable driving stick..........basically i am getting myself ready for a 6 spd sports car................... i'd love to keep the camaro just as a track car or something for later time.....but my tuition is due by january so, that's not an option........... I love camaro more than any car on the car lineup and i clearly see your point ...but i need to learn how to drive stick right now if i want to own manual f-body in later years......... so you might have a question why i did not buy a camaro 5spd? because this car was really cheap...............

Oh. I'm sorry. I thought you said you were going to keep it and sell the Camaro, for some reason. In any case is it really gonna matter if you learn it now or later? I fail to see the rush

I understand the point of autos being faster at the track, but I can't own an auto car. I just love the feeling of going through the gears myself. You'll enjoy driving so much more when you learn manual. But why not just buy a manual V6 Bird or Camaro to learn on. They are very simple cars to learn on. Just a thought. If you decide to go with the 626 you won't be disapointed. My wife's car is a 00 auto 4 cylinder. 80K miles and no major problems. 626's are boring cars, but they're reliable.

Dude, don't sell your car because of what your friends have. You'll regret that high school bull$it a couple of years down the road. (I know you're not in high school, but you have to admit, that is high school BS.) Besides, I'd be WAY more embarrassed driving a little Mazda econobox than an automatic Camaro. Keep the Camaro and learn to drive on a M6 LS1 car when you can afford it. You'll be happier that way. I understand wanting to learn how to drive a stick, I used to want one so bad. Now I have a cammed/high stalled automatic that will SPANK any stickshift car my friends ever had. I'm not embarrassed in the least that I could barely get a manual car around.

jrschultz also gave a very good suggestion: the 5spd Camaros/Firebirds are getting cheaper now.
