I would place my vote for the Z28. However, if they were both ram air I would go for the t/a since their "ram air" is a little bit more effective than the SS's. However I think it to call it a true ram air nowdays. We all know it just cools down the engine bay. It isn't like it used to be on the lt1's.

yea, i put my bet on the t/a, but this guy w/a 2001 z28 says his maro w/ram air can woop a t/a and i was like 'no' -- he said t/a's have 305 horse stock and i was thinkin'

Zs, T/As, and Formulas have under rated 305hp @ crank .. which really is 350-360hp @ crank thats why they dyno around 290-310 at the wheels

1998-2000 LS1 F-bodies are rated by GM at 305 HP, 320HP for the SS and the WS6.
2001-2002 LS1 F-bodies are rated at 310, 325 for the SS and the WS6.
Keep in mind that these are the figures that GM rates the cars at- in reality you probably have upwards of 350 in ANY of them, especially the 2001-2002's. Last dyno I saw on a stock SS was a 2001 model that pulled 321 RWHP. You do the math.
Cheers

In 2001, i believe the z28's & ta's were upped from 305 hp & 335 lbs of torque to 310 hp & 345 lbs of torque b/c of revised exhaust manifolds. It's indicated in the mods encyclopedia. In that same year the SS & WS6's were also bumped from 320 hp & 345 lb of torque to 325 hp & 350 lbs of torque.
If your comparing a TA to a Z28 of the same year w/ same options (including gearing, & stock) it really depends on the luck of the draw, or miscellenous factors, like driver skill, weather etc.

$hit!!! I tell you these engines are incredible! I would like to see what Mccanda's car is like on a dyno myself (hint hint)

Knight Rider, actually they did a few things that bumped the power up even more then they were claiming.
They upped the fuel injectors to 26 lbs/hr
They put on the LS-6 intake
They revised the exhaust manifolds to be more tubular
They changed the cam (supposed to keep the power in check) which allowed removal of the EGR junk.
As for who would win, considering equal drivers, I would say the Trans Am. They would be about equal in the 1/4 mile, but after that the TA would get a slight edge. I know when Car and Driver reviewed both of the WS6 and SS, they Trans Am pulled ahead after the 1/4 mile. But as far as any speeds you'll see in them and the 1/4 mile, they should be pretty much equal.

Huh? It's the exact same motor.
The cars are almost identical, it's impossible to say in any kind of definitive manner which car would win. It could go either way.
According to Motortrend, a 2000 Trans Am WS6 is faster than the 2000 SS by 0.2 seconds and 1.8 mph in the 1/4 mile. Here's the article. Since they say they use the same driver to test their cars and correct the times depending on weather conditions, the test has to be pretty accurate. I'm guessing their has to be something special about the firebird that it is faster, so I assume a 2001 TA would be faster than a 2001 Z28.
Although, if you are talking about with two different drivers racing each other, than it is all up to who has more skill.
