• advice on how much gas to run the track on.

Hey guys... since i'm having troubles hooking up, would it make sense to run 1/2 tank of gas instead of less than a 1/4 to get more weight in the back, or would the extra weight take more off the et than it would give me in traction?

thanks...

Run as little as gas as possible.. I run on fumes. Next time I need to bring a spare gas tank with me just in case.

If you have traction issues, one of these things is probable:
your track sucks
Your tires suck
Your tire PSI sucks
your suspension sucks
you need more tire.
Your tire is not adequate.
You need a better tire.

Get the drift? ;)

Yes adding weight can help hook and may get you a better ET but its not the ideal solution. You'd run better with less weight and more traction.

Also note that when you add nitto's you stand to lose 1mph or so.. and slicks 2mph so just slapping big ole meats on average joe's car won't always do good.. It may hurt more than it helps.

Thanks Keith...

Okay, so for this season, I'm not getting new tires. I still have my goal of 15.9. I'm running 245/50/R16 BFG T/A's. Normal pressure is 35psi.

You've recommended less gas in the tank... what psi would your recommend?

Next season, i'll look at street/drag radials...

It really depends on the tire..

On street tires it will hurt to lower the PSI cause you loose area on your contact patch. I wouldn't lower street tires past 25 psi.. you really have to test at the track.

Don't do huge burnouts with street tires either, you'll just glaze them over and they won't hook.. And stay OUT of the waterbox.

I have 3.08 opens... what's a huge burnout?

Okay, i'm going saturday again.

I'll make 2 passes at 35, 2 at 28 and 2 at 25 and see any differences.

Thanks Keith!

It 3.08s I wouldn't even consider low psi, in fac tI think the higher the psi the better, if oyu are nto spinning. Less friction with the track as you go down the track.

that is assuming you do not have traction problems. Test it and tune it

I'm spinning, that's why I started this thread

It makes sense though, less friction the better until i do drivetrain/power adder work.

Thanks..

Raven... can work with you on this stuff when we get to M7. I personally have Nittos that I run low pressure in and having the suspension done this week. Normal 60ft with 130K on the factory suspension... 2.0. I'm hoping for a 1.9 or maybe a 1.8 with the suspension combo and the right weather ;)

Might be able to let you use the salad shooters for a pass or two to get a feel for how they will help your car. I know this helped me make my decision alot easier!!

Hey, that would be super cool. Was talking with the wife last night about future car plans and we both figure to invest in some drag radials in the next year hopefully.

NP... and that is a good thought. I don't drive on mine just so I can get more use out of them. Had mine two years now and enjoy the investment. We'll play the switch game @ M7 :D

Isnt' M7 going to be a big bracket racing day? Or can you just run test and tune? I'm no where near consistant enough to start bracket racing...
