• :UPDATE: WTF? Why are my times so crappy

I dont understand how you guys with almost stock 3.8s and 3.08s run .7 better than me. Ive run over 40 + times and my car is only good for a 15.82 at 85 MPH. I know the elevation (2800) kills it, but i still think its a crappy time. Timeslip of my best run is right here

    http://www.arnaldo.cz28.com/custom2.html

im goin to that same track again on wednesday.. PLEASE, any advice is appreciated.

I'd say its your elevation/weather conditions.

Don't mean to nit pick here, but my 3.4 ran a 15.819 so include the 3.4's in with your rants! Hehe I'm just kidding bud. Maybe you should get a higher stall torque converter as your next mod. Or even try using a lighter rim?

that 15.8 was with stock rims.. the new ones slowed me down to 15.9. Could a 160 thermo help? I see almost everyone has one.

Have you ever autotapped your car to see if everything is running optimum?

Other than that I don't know how bad elevation is affecting you but you would be a lot faster In Ohio with those mods or at least should be!

and as far as the 160* stat it just helps keep the car cooler it won't improve your times!

Are you letting your car cool before you run it?

I hit a 15.279 with the mods in my sig (not on nitrous) in 60* weather with 3.08's ;) I STILL need to hook up this damn kit...

Actually it can, a cooler engine makes more power. Try a 180 or 160 t-stat and a fan switch. Both are very cheap. Also lighten the car up some(cough cough backseats cough). I'd also try w/o the raised lid. I'd leave the subs at home too.

COuld the raised lid be hurting me? It looks like the air might be escaping through the sides .. ill try that. Yes, ive let my car cool all the way down to 120 degrees. Still, 15.8 - 16s. Ill pick up a 160 thermo tomorow. My friend with an auto 98 GT runs 16.1s. So i dont feel too crappyy.. still crappy enough to come here and whine to all you faster bastards! thanks for the info everyone.

If you think about it with the raised air box there is nothing to stop the air from flowing straight under the intake. Take a 10 mm socket and wrechet to the track next time. That way you can try both raised & not raised.

Wednesday - ill take out subs, put the air box back to norm and run at about 140 degrees. Is it safe to run ONE time without the filter?

I'm aware that a cooler car is faster thats why I asked if he is letting it cool!

If your letting it cool down the stat shouldn't do anything until your going down the track and the car heats up.(you want it close to 160 when your moving down the track anyways so its open loop)

Granted while staging if your car is running it will start taking on heat and at this point the lower temp stat and cooling fan could make a world of differance!

I gained .2 just from not hotlapping my car and letting it cool all the way and pushing it in the staging lane :D

When was the last time you changed your plugs and wires? That was killing me initially. DOn't wait past 30000miles if you race, even less would be better.

Well as i have discussed in the advanced tech forum that if your car is to cold then your time will start to suffer. I figured out that when u get to the burnout box u need to be about 150 and after burnout around 160 for your launch also how is your traction. I also took out the spacers on the raised air box like two times to the track before i ran my best of 14.34
