Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't it need to be at least a 5 point to pass NHRA tech inspection?-Travis
99 Trans Am, Pewter, A4 Forged, stalled, and cammed
85 Buick Regal WH1 T-Type It\'d be cool if it ran...
94 Camaro 3.4, Teal, M5 The daily beater

Yeah, it does, but that's the bar I like ;) and it shouldn't be a problem passing tech where I race. I can always add the side bar that goes next to the driver if I have to. I've seen this bar in a Camaro that a friend of mine had...it really is nice looking. I don't want a full cage. Too much trouble with welding and getting in and out of the car.2004 CE Corvette 10.86@132mph

That's why you need a bolt in with a swingout door bar :D .
They probably won't notice too much, Island tech at least when I went there wasn't really tough. They'll probably give you a break anyway since you've got at least 4 points.

I didn't really want a full cage or the swingout door bar thing because it's not a full-blown racecar. I want the bar to compliment the car's interior. I know this bar will look good because I've seen it before. I like the style of it. The last 2 modifications that I wanted done to the car in this journey of mayhem...was to get a 4 point roll bar installed and maybe some more paint work. Then I can say I've accomplished all of my goals (in order) with this car. Travis, which bar are you looking at getting for yours?2004 CE Corvette 10.86@132mph

I'm planning on getting the Wolfe 6 point weld-in with swing-out bars on both sides. That way I can pull the side bars out when I'm not at the track and just cover the open ends (Wolfe sells a billet cap for this). Also will be going with the chrome moly version so I can save a few pounds. I've been looking into ways to offset the extra weight and it looks like a tubular k-member is my best bet. If I add upper/lower A-arms with the k-member, I'm sure I can come out a few pounds lighter than I was without the bar. Then bring on the wheelies! Wolfe says the weight is 60-65 lbs for the chrome moly one. 80-85 lbs for the mild steel.
BTW: I wanna see some pics when this bar goes in! ;)

the 8 pt. just has the subframe turn-downs added to the 6 pt. they're not too long. a fiberglass hood will also reduce weight off the front. VFN fiberglass has stock look fiberglass hoods that are 13 lbs. each for lift-off and 25(I think) for bolt-on hoods. that reduces weight higher up on the car, which I think make more difference than weight near the bottom. isn't that why ppl will get a dry sump oiling system and drop their motors 2-3 inches, for better weight transfer? neways, the hood, plus lightweight battery, plus k-member, rotors, a-arms, and coil-over's will drop a nice chunk off the front of the car.2001 Arctic White Firebird
More mods than I\'m allowed to list!

Cool, thanks for the advice. I always wanted a cowl hood or something similar...just never looked into it, cuz I thought...ok, if I get another hood, where am I gonna store the stock one??2004 CE Corvette 10.86@132mph
