What about a shorter belt that only went to the water pump and the tensioner? Or is the alternator so much less drag than the water pump that it would defeat the purpose of pulling the belt in the first place?

I have looked briefly into a shorter belt... main problem being the waterpump and crank go in opposite direction...

I originally wanted one to go from the crank to the water pump. It didn't have to be too tight, just spin it... but doesn't work since its opposit.
