• 2.8 Carb to 3.4 Carb?

I currently have a 2.8L V6 which is carbed, not EFI'd...the problem is that I live in California.
I would like to drop in a 3.4, but have the look of an unmodified engine. Is there any way to properly carburate a 3.4? I need to stick to smog equipment however, to pass smog in california..

2.8-3.4 swap boogie

use this as a guide, along w/Haynes-Chiltons manuals.

Karl is a good guy, I used this when doing my swap, but did variation by keeping the 3.4 Vbelt layout.

edit: thought you looked familiar from the thirdgen.org site ;) :D

Welcome !!!! to my official post whore site

I would use that, but that is for fuel injected swap...Looking to see what needs to be worried about with the carburation...
Be easier to pass smog if they didn't see obvious changes

And yah same person from thirdgen.org, trying to look and find more opinions

it's not just for the FI swap, you're just switching long blocks. When the 3.4 block is in, take everything (intakes, timing cover, new timing chain, exhaust manifolds in your case due to the 3.4 having an O2 sensor in each, etc off the 2.8 and put it on the 3.4. The only way anyone will be the wiser is if they attempt to get numbers off the block to verify it's a 2.8.

You cain do it. I believe :D
besides, I have to get my car e-checked if I want to drive it on base , whic I do.

E-Checked? no clue what that is....Also, I'm not military so I don't deal with base rules The biggest issue, is the stock carb from the 2.8L large enough for the 3.4? I sometimes wonder if it's big enough for the 2.8L as it is.

edelbrock makes an intake maniffold for the 2.8 motor.3 pieces. Base, 2bb top (which will fit stock carb) and 4bb top (if you want to upgrade.

E-check- emissions check. some people even in TX have to get it done.

you can't do that in california. The engine has to be an engine setup that came in that year car. That's why third gens can go from a v6 to a TPI motor, but can't jump to a 427, because that didn't come in any of the cars and there is no smog info for the state on that engine in the car. the 3.4 only came FI'ed, so i don't think they will let you get away with a custom carbed setup, especialy since you have to have the computer stuff on it.

The 2.8 and 3.4 are the same block, people regularly swap em and jus don't tell the smog nazis.

yeah, Karl lives in CA, and has passed his e-checks w/the 3.4 smuggled in ;) . Apparently, they also do open hood check outs also, which is good, if you swap all intake & front cover over to the 3.4. The oly way they can tell that it's not a 2.8 is to pull the numbers off the block or dissasemble & take measurements.
