Just wondering how everyone that has em went about getting them. Did you port them yourself, take them somewhere to be ported or is there a place you can buy em from?

I do all my own work. Gringing, welding, porting, blue printing, plumbing, tuning, light machine work and more.
I ported and welded my heads.
Also did my intake manifold and am working on fabricating a new plenum.
It's all on my cardomain site.\'85 Z28, T-tops new LG4 and TH700
\'85 3.4L 5-speed
mods: http://www.cardomain.com/id/oil_pan_4 the nitrous exhaust O2 safety, pg 3.
Areo space materal engineer wantabe

SSM uses stock retainers and Comp 915 springs (105 lbs). I believe he will upgrade if you wish to pay for the parts.
Tom @ SSM is a great guy and they provide excellent service & support. Matt

$750
For ported and assembled heads.
I think that sucks but I'm kinda cheap any way.
Head porting tools <$100
Springs $42
Spring tool $20
Titanium retainers $47
Forged machined valve locks $33\'85 Z28, T-tops new LG4 and TH700
\'85 3.4L 5-speed
mods: http://www.cardomain.com/id/oil_pan_4 the nitrous exhaust O2 safety, pg 3.
Areo space materal engineer wantabe

Then stay away from Intense. Their heads start at $1500. Even for V8s, you'd be lucky to find a pair for under $1000. SSM's price is very cheap compared to most others on the market. ;)Matt

I think that I could just go with the PnP myself for $450. There seems to be a broad range of experience on this board...when it comes to P&P heads I've found in 30 years of road racing that it pays to go with the best...yes, you're paying for experience and knowledge and skill and IMHO it's worth every penny...P&P your own heads is akin to selfpracticed dentistry...save your money until you can have a professional like Abbott Racing Heads deliver a perfect set of heads...if you're looking for maximum horsepower and performance there is no alternative to someone whose sole business is performance P&P
