  • i need help removing the shift knob

So for my birthday I got this really awesome shift knob. That isn't the problem, the problem is I can't take it off. I sat in my car for a good 45 minutes before giving up. I'm sure it doesn't require much genius to remove it (thus why I couldn't do it to begin with).

If there is anyone out there who can help me, please do!

P.S.- there a few minor problems with my camaro so if any of you are camaro know-it-alls PLEASE tell me. thank you.

Automatics - There is a big *** staple at the front pointing to the back. Put the car in 1st, and look, you'll see it. Get some needle nose pliers and yank that puppy out.

What year is yours? My 2001 manual shift knob was actually pressed onto the stick, not threaded. I had to vice and hammer the damned thing off to get the boots off the stock shifter when I put in my billet plus last week.

If it is an automatic, put the car in first. Look on the side of the knob and you'll see like a silver peice of metal. This is a staple, I reccomend either getting a flat head screwdriver or needle nose pliars and yanking that thing out!

Thankfully, my knob twists right off.

If it's a stick, grab a brochure or other piece of glossy paper (it provides a surprising amount of friction), and use that to help grab the knob. Hold the shaft with a pair of Vise-grips, and TWIST.

                Good luck.
