anyone hear paint cars? I'm looking to get into it and maybe take a class at the local community class over the summer. Right now i buy cars, fix them up and sell them...I could make lots more money if I could repaint them. My dad used to paint a long time ago and he says its a major pita, and everything has to be perfect from body to clear coat, he gave up on it (and if you knew my dad that is something he never does, quite the handyman) I have a gun, and all the needed equip. Anyone hear do this kinda thing, or have any good links to read up on the subject?

There was a guy in the appearance section that paints cars and was doing a pretty lengthy write up, but i think it was forgotten about and not finished.

            Re: car painting

Since last May, I've taken 5 auto body classes at Sherwin Williams near me. They have courses that teach automotive painting. I have also sat in and helped on a few shoots with a co-worker who owns a small bodyshop. Yes, it's a pain in the arse, but the outcome is well worth it.

I actually repainted my own quarterpanel this past August. I did it in the rear of my house with a Devilbiss Gun. Here's the link.

Next project is respraying the whole car. Not sure though if I want to do that or just sell it...

My compressor is a Craftsman 6.5 hp, 60 gallon. I am probably gonna trade it for a smaller compressor though because it takes up too much room in my garage. I only need a 5hp motor, and no more than a 30 gallon tank.
