  • V8 rearend swap!! finally!!

well we're finally getting around to doing the V8 rearend swap this weekend

we scored a 97 firebird formula 6spd rear end for $150

    it has 3.42 gears
    posi
    rear discs
    19mm sway bar

we've painted the swaybar and axles assembly hammered black
    calipers black
and we also got the poly sway bar bushing/endlink kit and 1le panhard bushings

anyway we're taking it to my friend's new speed shop tomorrow night and hopefully it'll be done saturday, monday at latest

she was kind of dissappointed that the drilled/slotted rotors we got werent the right ones so we're rolling on stockers till the right ones get here

we could've done it at her dad's shop but we're planning on getting her V8 s-10 ready for the races next weekend

    will post pics asap!!

    Re: V8 rearend swap!! finally!!

Once you start on Saturday, you'll find out how simple it is...especially with help from others and having it done at a shop. It souldn't take any longer than 4 hours to complete, and that's giving a large margin of error.

What happened with the rear rotors? I bought a set for my '95 rear and they barely wouldn't fit over the hub. It was within milimeters too small. I took a Dremel Grinder and lightly grinded around the center of the rotor for less than 30 seconds. Worked great!

see, we ordered just the front rotors and they sent all 4 so we were really excited, well we went to turn the rear ones (to make sure they are true) and noticed they are waaaaaay different, they are for a mid-90's crown vic

so i called the company and i'm supposed to send these back (california) and they'll send me the correct ones

Nice man. The 3.42 LSD was my favorite mod. I dropped half a second on myt 1/4 mile time before i even programed. I've got an auto so the shifts were 15% off. If you've got a 96 get a 97 pcm and hptuners and do some tuning!

nice C5s, i've got a teal car with C5s and I think they look great. :)

yah her's is teal too, but they added an extra bit of blue pearl, she's getting ready to paint it again and she's adding more blue pearl

her's is a 95 3.4, how do we go about correcting the speedometer? i thought the speed sensors were in the front hubs but i've also heard it goes off the tranny, which is it?

                      we scored it off ebay

i wish she'd take it down the 1/4 once but she's determined it will break so she just takes her s-10 racing and that's all :(

yeah its an easy swap with help. Especially in a equiped shop.
