  • Rebuild or no rebuild

alright i have a gold camaro 110k miles on it and on long trips it acts up switching from one to two. i went to get a sonnax kit put in it but they said they coudnt because it would start acting up and the tranny would just go out. i took it to aamco and today they test drove it and said it had a soft shift from 3 to 4 and when it gets real hot on long trips it kicks from 1 to 2 they said they could rebuil dit for1295 but do you think it needs to be rebuilt or should i take it somewhere else and try to get a sonnax kit put in the valve body?

        Second Gear Start switch

Mine does the hard 1-2 shift once in a while too. Only tripped the CEL once, was within in the first week I had it too and I was mad until I googled it and realized its not a real big deal to fix.

One thing I did a couple times I could feel the hard shift coming on was to flip the Second Gear Start switch so it stopped using first gear. Never got another CEL (for anything!) driving around every day this month.

Now I gotta scope out the tranny shops in the area and find out who's familiar with that sonnax kit, and then decide whether I want to pull the pan myself or just have a shop do it all...
