i don't have it, but i think it's for situations such as when you are sitting at the track between runs, you can manually turn on the fan to cool down the engine as much as possible. but maybe i'm wrong??

Yep. The fans normally don't turn on until 210 or 215. Then they turn off around 185 I think? With the manual fan switch, you can turn them on whenever you want. Keep your engine cool while you're waiting in line to drag.

not sure on the V6 exact temps, but my 98 Ws6, (stock thermo, is 195 or so)

with AC off, and in florida heat with windows down, i have logged 228 degree engine temps.

With my manual fan switch, even on low, i have never seen over 198 sitting in traffic on 95 degree days.

and the switches allow you only a manual override on, not the ability to turn them off, if the computer says they should be on.

Ryan.

Stock thermo for a 98' is 180. 228 is a tad high but still normal. Ever thought about running a 75% water 25% coolant ratio? Or even 100% water and a bottle of water wetter? I live in Hawaii and have been doing a half gallon of dexcool and fill with distilled water. Works REAL well. I've been thinking of adding the fan mod to my car as well. It's like 75 degrees on Christmas day here.... :(

NOTE: all LS1 information...

stock in the ls1 "claims" be to 180 in the owners manual, but...and the part number is a 195 stat.

here are the specs, that i have found, for the fans stock

Fan 1 on/off at: 227°F/218F°
Fan 2 on/off at: 235°F/228F°

not sure how accurate that information is, and normally i run with the AC on, so they stay under 200 all the time.

the coolant in the car is fine, and the fans will keep the car cool, it is just telling the fans to turn on, that is needed. I had a hypertech, and it worked good, but not in the $$ department.

With hypertech, it also stayed under 200 all the time, but i sold it, as it was worthless, after i got the fan switch, and am running stock tires/gears.

Ryan.
