  • 2 Way or 3 Way?

Going to buy new speakers, I was looking online and came across 2-way and 3-way speakers. What is the difference?

A two way speaker consists of a woofer and a tweeter.

A three way consists of a woofer, a midrange, and a tweeter.

I'd say go with the two ways...you will get much better sound out of them...what kind of speaker are you looking to get?

    btw: nice sig :D

I have about 500 dollars to spend, I'm looking for a good quality speaker that is going to last about 3-5 years. I'm definitly going to replace the back ones the day I buy, the front can wait if they need to. I'm also going to buy a deck that same day. I think I have oval 6x9's in the back, but one is completly gone, came that way when I bought it

When you go to a concert where does the sound come from? In front of you...therefore IMHO your front speakers are the most important spealers in your system. If I were you I would scratch the rear speakers completly...with the 500 bux i would get a nice set of 2way component speakers heres a link of some real high end ones

        http://www.thezeb.com/caraudio/specials_speakers.html

the CL-61a's are on special right now and they are very nice speakers. (thats 150 bux) that free's up 350 bux for kick panels, subs, or rear speakers (if you want them) let me know and I can shoot you some pics of various front component installs...

I would suggest getting a set of components for the front and some 2-ways for the mids. I have Infinity speakers all the way around (components in the front, 2-ways in the back, 12" perfects in the trunk) and would highly recommend them. Infinity makes some great sounding speakers and they arent really that expensive either.

I also have infinity speakers in my fronts...they are nice spekers but I'll have to admit they have very harsh tweeters (I cant turn the volume up too much or else my ears hurt) as fro the CDT's they have very mellow on axis tweeters...so in essance what im tryin to say is if you have 500 bux to spend there is a lot of stuff nicer than infinty IMHO...well good luck with the install and if you have any other q's dont be afraid to ask....

Go with some components. That would sound great, you can mount the tweeters where you want, and they will run you about $500 or less.

components are speakers that are seperate phyiscally but are wired together. basically its usually like a 1" tweeter that is seperate from a 6.5" midbass driver. here is a pic of a component system http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/588. and this is what is called a coax system http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/1338 see how the tweeter is inside the other speaker this is typically not as clear as a component system. from what i hear CDT is awsome but MBquart and Boston Acoustics are nice as well. deffinately get one of these three if you have that much to spend.

If you are looking for around $500 a pair, may i reccomend Diamond Audio.

Ive heard a pair of mid-level Diamond components, and they were incredible.

They were like $500 a year ago or so, so they are probably like $400 now.

Real nice speakers for the money.

Diamond audio are nice components...but if your gonna spend 500 bux on just components then I'd go with either the Focal Utopias or the CDT eurosportsthey are both maybe a touch over 500...these speakers are used by a lot of people who compete in SQ competitions. Other brand names to look into are mb quarts, morel, or rainbow....

                      Good Luck

With that much money, I'd build my own custom set. But if we're talking Utopias vs. Eurosports, my vote goes with CDT. Utopias aren't all that in my opinion. I personally like the K2's better then them......

                          K2P's sound better than Utopias.

IMO, you don't want the tweeter of ANY Focal driver...titanium dome rips your head apart.

I'm much better with a soft-dome tweeter that I ripped out of a pair of Mackie HR824 studio monitors and an Audiom 6M

yeah kid ill agree with ya the k2ps have a softer tweeter than the utopias (on axis) off axis id asy thats a different story...myself...id go with the CDT eurosports or the HD series...unless you got the money to spend on top end 1200 rainbows.
