I have a 99 firebird, I have just noticed that the small speakerer of the two in the pod on the door doesn't work, Are these component speakers? How do I open the pod up to check it out? And what type of speakers should I get to replace it, if it is broken?

U need to take the panel off. Take out all the screws.
It is a component set. It's probably a loose wire. Check it out.

this happened with my camaro too. They were supposed to replace it with a new speaker, but when I took it in they replaced the opposite side.
