  • Installed sirius, now i have speaker whine

i have a pioneer deck so i bought the sirius unit that plugs into the back of the cd player. my speakers didn't whine until i hooked it up. when the car is at idle sometimes the subs whine, then when i give it gas the speakers whine. here's a list of what i did so maybe you guys can help me pinpoint why i'm getting whine now.

-antenna is mounted under the hood, so the wire is run through hole on passenger side along w/ the power wire.
-i used wire taps to connect the battery and ground wires from the sirius to the cd player. i just tapped into the wires that connect the cd player to the wireing harness
-sirius unit is in my glove box

thats all i can think of that might cause it. i'm going to try and disconnect the wire taps and listen to a cd and see if still whines. if that works where is a good place for a new ground?

I have the same issue with the XM radio I have. I have it plugged into the Cig lighter, no taps or anything. I tried the Access. lighter in front of the Parking break, but it had a louder whine then the Cig lighter. It has to be a bad ground wire in it somewhere. I have no issues with my system besides when the XM receiver is turned on. I am planning a splicing quest and tapping into some thing in the fuse block that that is ignition dependent. I just have to get around to it. LOL Maybe this weekend.

It's a ground problem. I had the same exact problem as you, it's fixed now.

There is a factory grounding point located behind both kickpanels. Once you remove the kick panel, you will see a large bolt with several ground wires attached to it.

            update:

i regrounded the wire. put it on the bolt behind the kick poanel. i drove around and thought it was fixed. next day drove to work it was fine, was leaving work and it started doing it again. at idle the subs whine and then driving the speakers whine. they get louder as i accelerate. later that day i notice its cutting in and out of it. i pulled the cd player out and checked all the rca's and they're good. when i move some of the wires around it will cut in and out of doing it. if anyone has any suggestions please help me out.

Sounds like to me that there are poor connections. If you can get the problem to come and go while moving the wires around something in the connection is to blame.

i think i fixed it! bought a couple of different connectors that didn't work, got pissed, went back and bought a soldering iron. should have done that the first time and been done w/ it. drove iy around the neighborhood a few times and it seems to be gone. hopefully its not some other loose connection that will show up in a day or two.
