  • how to know if a car has the monsoon system?

I am looking at buying a 2000 firebird, and i was wondering if there was an easy way to tell if it has the monsoon system(the VIN or will it say on the head unit). It has the w68 ground effects, if that makes a difference.

If your car has the monsoon system, it should say it on the head unit.
Yes, I know \"Artic\" should be spelled \"Arctic\". Can any of the mods change this?

if it has subs and an amp, and 6 by 9s on the rear panel in the back, its a monsoon. the headunit looks the same as the stock headunit and they both say monsoon.

monsoon doesn't have 6x9's (it just looks like 6x9's should be there) nor does it necisarrily have subs.

Since it's a Firebird, just look on the front door panels for a separate tweeter AND a midrange. If it has both, then its got the Monsoon system.

The standard (non-monsoon) system only has one speaker in each door.

Seems to be alot of misinformation going on about this.
I was told that my 97 Fbird convert didnt have monsoon since they didnt offer it in 97 convertibles but it does have AM FM CD with graphic Eq and door speakers that do have seperate tweeters and midrange.
What are the codes for monsoon systems. It might be easier to decode than guess.

A lot of people add 6x9's back there because its pretty easy. I know every one i have taken the speakers out of does not have stock 6x9's. And V6droptop they did offer monsoon in verts (i should know, i have one with the monsoon) i dont know when they started offering it though.

No monsoon codes listed for my car(97 F bird convert)in the modifications encyclopedia.
Shop manual does list this for code W 59 which my car has:
                      "Entertainment System,Radio,AM/FM Stereo,Compact Disc,Equalizer,6 way speaker system,Dual Front door tweeters/woofers,extended range shelf."
So no monsoon but dual door speakers.

I have the W55 factory stereo. (Entertainment System with 10-speakers, cd-player with EQ and amplifier.) It's the same exact thing as the Monsoon setup except it doesn't have the word "monsoon" displayed anywhere on the headunit or anywhere else, all it says is Delco. People just refer to it as the Monsoon system instead of telling everyone they have the Entertainment System which sounds corny.

Consider yourself lucky if you don't have the Monsoon system, it's a piece of sh@t.

Yes but it makes it difficult to upgrade the speakers.
