I have a friend who currently has 3 W0 10in and a 500watt Punch amp, it sounds really good but he want a louder system. He wants to buy 2 W3 12in and another punch amp.
I cant seem to find any cheap prices for the W3 12in. Do any of you know where I could find some good prices for the W3?
And also a good cheap amp for them.
You gonna have a hard time finding the W3's. I think they are soon to be (or maybe already) discontinued. JL now offers version 2 of the W3. ie 12W3v2 Dual 4 ohm Dual 2 ohm
How much of an increase is he looking for? He's losing a tad bit of cone area, but the W3v2's have greater excursion. Should be nearly equal with the same power and box. You did say he's planning to run another amp, but is that small increase in volume going to be worth the price of the upgrade? Not in my opinion. If he's gonna go, go big. Is this for an f-body? A pair of beefy 12"s in a ported box at minimum. Or, if he's willing, a pair of 15"s
He is going to put them in a Astro van so he does have a lot of space but I think he wants to go with 12's and also with JL (another JL brain washed). He has already heard the 2 W3's and he tought they were much louder than his setup. Which I also think they are going to sound right around the same.
I think I saw the JL W3 12in dual 6ohm at my local WOW electronics store for $160 I think.
How much did your subs cost? I've heard they kick a@s.

To each his own. If he's set on a pair of 12W3's....so be it. I suggest a vented enclosure though. You gonna be building the box yourselves? Lemme know if you need specs. Dual 6 ohm huh? What are your plans with this?

Yes he is set on the W3 I dont think he is going to change his mind unless they were the W7's.
I think he is going to buy the box. The set up is just a daily driver. I think they are dual 6 ohm because on the specs of the sub it said 12 ohms.
He also wants to buy a puch amp thats around does around 600wrms, will that be good enough, and also how many ohms does the amp need to be if the sub is dual 6 ohms? I was thinking maybe 1 ohm?
He already has a Fosgate amp now correct? And he wants to buy another?
If they really are dual 6 ohm, you need to run at a 1.5ohm load. Not every amp is stable to this. Search Ebay for the keyword BX1500D or BX1000D. Either of them should make those subs fly.
If its in a van he should build a wall, not a box
