amp problems

i got my system all hooked up today,

1X1200 watt rms amp
1X2000 watt rms sub

3X30 amp fuses on the amp
1X80 ANL fuse in the front to battery

i played my system for a good 5 minutes with no problems so i drive my car later and have it at about the same volume, and all 3 of the fuses on my amp blew. any ideas?? ive checked every wire and made sure everything was a strong connection and also that everything was wired correctly since my sub is at 1ohm. help! ?

thats the sub.

it says 2 ohms.. but the guy i bought the system from said he had it at one ohm, running all 1200 rms watts from the amp to it, he had it for 6 months and never had a problem with it the way he ran it (exact setup i bought from him)

im not sure if he knew what he was talking about. could it be that the sub is wired at one ohm, and needs to be wired at 2 ohms?

prolly your volts went down to much and blew the fuses cuz the amp wasnt getting the right amout of volts had that happen to a buddy of mine but his blew the amp right the he11 up

also, im not sure if this is part of the problem.. or just a coincidence.. but my fuses on my amp blew as i was accelerating.

do you think it could be a ground connection problem? i put the terminal for the amp to ground where the frame of my car meets a big bolt for my backseat on the hump in the back. is this an alright place? could this even be the problem? im pretty positive that the sub is wired correctly.

I want to think low voltage led to a higher input current to fry the 30 amp fuses. What did your volt meter read just before the fuse blew, probably around 10 volts, also the 80amp fuse is to small, you need 120 amps @10vdc =1200watts rms with no loss. Replace the 30 amps fuses and see whay the voltmeter reads, also try to get a clamp on current meter to read the input current. Anything over 80 amps and you stock alternator will not work very long, also very hard on it and the battery. As a side note get a high ouput alternator 160 amps+ and a 1 to 2 farad capacitor will help.

i have a HO alternator. and i have a voltmeter on my amp, as well as on my ANL fuse block holder. i dont know what they read right before they blew, i was driving.

wouldnt putting a 100 amp ANL fuse in the front be too much, since there is only 3x30 amp fuses in the back. 100>90?

ok, so i just put in three more fuses to see what my amp read when it blew the fuses. i turned it on,and as soon as the amp turned on, the amp read "Lo" and the fuses on the amp blew. what does this mean?

Well, now it would appear that everyone here is correct. Your amp probably uses a stiffly regulated power supply. Meaning it tries to output the same amount of power regardless of the voltage input. And we all know voltage x current = power. So if voltage drops, current must increase to keep total output power the same. Once it crosses the 90 amp mark, pop! But I wonder why your 80 amp under the hood didn't blow?

Try turning the gain down a touch.

Maybe that amp isn't 1-OHM stable, I don't know for sure. Wire your sub in Series, which will give you a 4-ohm load. See if the amp will run okay for you under that load. You may also want to see if one of the voice coils on the sub is bad. A burnt voice coil sometimes can present the amp with a dead short.

Before you even do that, unhook the sub from the amp completely and replace the fuses and turn it back on. Do the fuses still pop?

if it shows low that means that its not getting enough volts if im not mistaken check and see with the ANL fuse block see what volts that shows then get back to us if it didnt stop. it might even be you battery enogh to start the car then when the alt kicks in its fine untill your bass hits then pop.

ok update:

i tired an 100 amp anl fuse in the front, and the fuses on my amp didnt blow! so im like ok, this is good. but now the protection light on my amp comes on.. and i have no sound from the sub. i put the 80 anl fuse back in the front, and now the fuses dont pop! so now im confused. something must be wrong with my amp?

yes, my amp is one ohm stable, and im pretty sure the problem isnt with the sub.

on the amp, i get a good 12 volts when the car is "on" and 14.5 when my car is running, still no sound and just a protection light.

ideas???
