  • Speakers "click/pop" when changing radio station

Recently I've had a problem with my car stereo. Whenever I change the station on the radio, the speakers make a clicking or popping sound. It is pretty annoying and it just started after I got my alarm installed. I just got 4 new Alpine S-Series speakers today; they rewired them but the problem still exists. What could be the cause of this? Thanks.

Sounds like a remote wire problem to me...did you just hook it up to the accessory wire of the car or the remote wire of the deck?

Thanks for the response. The alarm shop did the majority of the work the first time I went in. If I remember correctly, the radio worked normally after the first visit. The second time I went, the alarm shop fixed the problem where the car would not unlock from the remote (factory remote or alarm remote). Do you think they may have messed up the stereo by connecting that wire, or another wrong wire? What should I do to fix it?

I sounds to me like your speakers are picking up interference from the alarm. My radio used to do the same thing when the amp wires were places too close to eachother. It's hard to pinpoint though, but I think it's most likely picking up interference.

Actually, the problem sounds like a bad ground. If it was interferance, the noise would continue while music was playing. Where is the radio and the alarm grounded at, and do you have an amp set up for the speakers?

I don't have an amplifier for the speakers, but there are stereo wires leading to the trunk, so the previous owner probably took the amp out before he sold it. The CD player was there when I bought the car so I don't know how it is installed but I'll have to look into your suggestion Pig General. Thanks.

Try re-grounding the head unit's ground. DO NOT use the stock ground wire. It is the same ground used to ground nearly everything electrical in the car. Run the headunit's ground wire directly to the chassis somewhere. I bet you'll notice a difference right away.
