rear defroster cycle too short

I searched the archives and couldn't find anything so here goes. Bought my bird in May (here in Bflo, its cold most of the time). Had used the rear defroster once and noticed the cycle was very short.

It is now October, and used it again and found the same thing. Maybe kicks in for a minute or two then kicks out. Must wait a few minutes before the button will light up again, letting me know it will turn on again once I push it.

It works, so thats good, but is the circuit adjustable, or is there an easy replacement part? I don't want to bring it to the stealership to evaluate.

I believe the rear defroster in on a circuit breaker, not a fuse, in the fuse block. A couple of people have noticed this circuit breaker likes to go open and takes a while to close. A possible fix is to replace it with a fuse (I think normal fuses will fit) of the same amperage as the breaker. Don't know what that would be...or where exactly it is (though it is probably listed in your owner's manual). Wish I could help more...Good luck with it.

Time the cycle, Lets say the cycle is 30 sec

Ok then next time you need to use it turn it off right before it hits the 30 sec, shut it off like at 25 sec. Then turn it back on. And keep doing this untill needed.

i tryed that it did not work. it wont come back on for like a 60 sec

good to know I'm not the only one with this problem. I have been trying to figure it out before winter.

could it be that Gm never really thought we would be driving these in the winter months? or somehow, could they be afraid that that rear glass could crack cause it is so big if it doesn't heat up evenly, ?

Mine did that but I got it covered under warranty, they told me it was a relay of some sort. My cousin is in an auto college right now and just called me recently to tell me that he was fixing that same problem in his T/A. I will find out exactly what he did and post what he says asap

I got the same problem also, it is very annoying! But I am putting the car away in a few days, so it wont be getting the best of me

i looked at my haynes manual and it says nothing about the rear window defroster in the wiring diagrams. so if anyone knows knows any thing about the defroster system tell me. i really want to fix this before winter gets here.
