    I'm no pro on this either. Seems they both have their merits. A combination of both would cover all bases, obviously. But think of the cap as a bucket of water with a hole on the bottom. It will drain out, if not refilled. The alternator is constantly filling it at a slightly slower rate than it is using. The capacitor's usefulness is that you aren't going to be bumping for 9 hours straight. It will recharge immediately. I hope this makes sense. I had no problems with using a cap and my PG 800 watt amp. Without the cap, my car looked like a rolling disco.

      I have 2000watts amp and it stays arond 12v maby it's your ground or wire you are using and maby u need to do big3s? http://forum.realmofexcursion.com/showthread.php?t=924
