just installed fff turbo kit....

well i just got the turbo kit installed, but with some problems. the oil feed line rubbed against the belt(guess i didn't zip tie it out of the way enough), and threw oil all over my engine bay. Well i fixed that problem but when i cleaned my engine bay i got mymsd wet and gthe car wouldn't start. I messed with evrything for about an hour until i finally decided to bypass the msd, what do you know it started right up. I need to see if it has a fuse anywhere. but now i have an even more major proplem. i had smoke coming from my tail pipes especially when i get on it and the turbo spools up. i unbolted the down pip and saw a sh** load of oil in the turbine side. so i ordered a rebuild kit to replace the seals. the rebuild kit should be here on tues. the one thing i don't get is that the turbo looked brand new, there was no carbon build up at all. i was just surprised it was leaking so much oil. and i know what you guys are thinking, yes the gravity feed line is working just fine, i checked it. Well so far i have only seen about 2.5 lbs of boost, think it's because i need to get the 2 to 2.5 reducer on the compressor side. i think it's leaking boost there, not to mention the whole oil problem.

Was it an Ebay turbo?

no i bought off of a member from firebirdv6.com cdubb8604. The y pipe i was sent wasn't even close to matching up. i had a complete new y pipe made. I'll try and get pictures of my setup .

Probably to much oil pressure on the feed side. Try putting a restrictor in it, worked for me.
x2 on the y-pipe...seems like you are having the EXACT same problems i did.

what pressure should i be seeing, i believe it's pretty much staying at around 60 psi all the time. what did you use to restrict the pressure.

you should be able to get a restrcitor in any department store. As far as oil, where about is your oil drain tapped into your oil pan???

well i ordered a restrictor online because i wasn't sure if i would find one here in town. I tapped the oil pan directly in the front below and to the right of the harmonic balancer, where the oil ban kind of angles a bit. did you find a restrictor at like sears or something, just curius where you would go to find one?

i got mine at lowes but home depot, sears, maybe even walmart would have one. only like 1$...what gauge drain line are you using for the turbo???

i used 1/2in fittings for the drain line. Did you just find the fitting in there brass pipe fittings area? or in the plumbing department?

yeah you need a resictor and drain line shoul be like 5/8

any bets on whether or not the restrictor will cure the problem or wether it will need to be rebuilt too? i only had the turbo on for a couple days and max boost i have seen is 2.5 after it started smoking i stopped getting into the gas all together, because i noticed when the turbo spoos up it tend to smoke a hell of a lot more. well the turbo is new and i'm hoping after the retricter is in, everything will seal up again. If not i bought the rebuild kit anyways, i'm just hoping i can fix it in 10 min as opposed to a couple hours, because i have to un bolt everything. maybe i'll get lucky:)

although today my fiances car's automatic shift lever decided to screw up, i have to but it in drive or reverse and then pop the hood and push on the lever to put it in gear, although it doesn't look like the cable is broken. gotta love tauruses with over 200k.

mine did the same thing put the resrictor in and test again...... mine was fine and i drove on it like that for 2 weeks...

also check you IC and intake pipes they probroly have oil in them

someone should post a sticky or add to the turbocharger one, stating that everyone needs an oil inlet restrictor if you install the turbo kit. Sounds like everybody has had the same problem and always finds out after the fact. Just curius how long did it take for all the oil to be burned out of the pipes and stop smoking? as far as the oil in the intercooler pipes i can't really clean the intercooler but i guess i could take the pipe off theat connects directly to the compressor, chances are that would be as far as the oil leaked.

nope not everyon needs one if you have normal oil psi you wont need one...... some cars do and some don't it also depends on the turbo kinda one of those hit or miss things

just curius how long did it take for all the oil to burn out of the down pipe, I installed the restrictor and have probably driven a total of about 10 miles around town and have been trying to get into the boost to make sure i burn all the oil out of the turnine housing. I will say that i know longer see a giant white cloud when it spools up. I just notice some smoke after i come to a stop after getting into the boost.
