No problems with removing the old fuel filter but encountered a weird problem I can't seem to solve.
It's the new replacement ones I'm having trouble with. See what I had to go through below.
The 13/16 and 16mm wrenches I used was problem free but the stubborn little plastic clip on the other side of the filter had to be destroyed in order to remove it. Yes that's your typical Northeastern rust you see. It's wet with fuel from all that twisting action at the base of the nipple.
Here is an internal shot at the female fuel line outlet. There is a yellow O-ring gasket seated inside. Something I didn't expect but I removed it for cleaning and reinstallation.
Now for the problem. The center filter I removed is obviously longer than the Fram's G7315 on the left and the AC Delco's GF578 on the right. If you take a closer look, the old filter employs a small plastic sleeve that resided where the rusty spot is. The new filters do not have a sleeve at all.
I installed the Fram, tightened the nuts, locked the fuel lines nice and tight and I thought I was done until I primed the fuel pump. Looking below, the fuel was squirting out like crazy! That was odd to me so I installed the sleeve onto the Frams nipple and then I could not get the fuel line to reconnect at all.
The same was done to the AC Delco filter at the fuel disconnect line. Autozone sold me the Fram , Advance Auto sold the AC Delco.
So I am stuck needing a "special" fuel filter needed for my 3.8L it seems. Anyone run into this problem before? The old filter is leaky and trashed.
I'm headed to NAPA Auto to see what they got to solve my problem but maybe you guys might know what I can do if all else fails like a braided line from the tank outlet line to the filter for example. Thanks for your help in advance.
