  • My cam'd v6 swaped to a LS1

Those who know me and my car on here I apolagize for my long vacation from the forum. Ive been making plans to get a LS1 car or swap a LS1 into my car. The time has come to where Im dong the swap. Ive found a car much like my v6 car. Its same year 2001, same color Pewter, and its just 7,000 more miles than my car at 89k. Im doing the LS1 with a LG G5x3 cam along with some other goodies backed with a 4l80E w/Edge 3400 stal. I will also be doing a few other things to the car. The looks of the car will stay the same minus the addition of the leather seats from the TA. I hope all goes well and just wanted to give a little update on my car.

Right now the car is a cam and boltons car with full suspension making 206rwhp / 200rwtq. This will be a big difference to me after the transformation.

Sounds good, but why 4L80e and that junk Edge stall?

Well 4l80s can with stand more power than the 60's. Eventually 60's become a weak point as u get more power goni through them. I know a bunch of guys hwo use 80s and the Edge TC's. They seem to be jsut as good as anything else .

I promise that an Edge TC is nowhere near as good as a Yank, PI, PTC or even TCI. A 4L60e will live through 420ish RWHP which is where you should be with a G5X3 and full boltons. All things being equal, a 4L80 will be slower due to gearing. You can not change the internal gearing of that trans. You would have to make up the difference in the rear gear. I've seen plenty of people go through the headache of putting a 4L80 in and then go slower. Not to mention, a well built 4L60e will be cheaper. Case in point, my friend Chris' Camaro. He posts on ls1tech as Chrs1313. High 1.2x 60's and Low 10's with nearly 500 RWHP through a 4L60e.

You actually can't hear my exhaust over the turbo sound, and I don't have a cat or a muffler really, just a massive cherry bomb.

But yea, at part throttle it sounds pretty bad lol.

Although my car is probably faster than the above set up :D

Well I know a guy with a LT1 and an 80 behind his engine and he runs 10's without spray. His car is just a heads and cam car.

And I'd bet you a dollar that he has a 4.30 or better rear gear. It's about an overall combo, not just throwing parts at a car because you heard they were good. Don't get me wrong, a 4L80e has many useful purposes, just not in a mild heads cam car. The amount of beating required in the trans tunnel to make it fit is reason enough alone for me to have no interest in one.
