i want to get a manual fan switch for my car, are there any downsides to having one? like losing your a/c while its on or anything else that i can't think of? i live in Florida and recently when i'm caught in traffic my temp goes up to 210, even though i have a jet stage 2 module and hypertech 160 thermostat. i always have to crank my heat on full blast to cool off my engine and once the car heats up like this, it loses the little performance it has and feels soooo sluggish. i'm don't want the fan switch as a performance thing, just as a convience and to keep the engine cooler in traffic. thank you for your replies.

I had one.
It worked great.
It didn't affect anything ever.
The only problem I might come across was in the staging lanes when I would have the fans on setting 2 and nitrous bottle warmer on for long periods of time w/ the bird off.
Other than that no problems except that after 2 yrs it crapped out on me :(
I haven't replaced it yet but it is on the to do listRace car - gone but not forgotten - 1997 firebird V6

I live in Milwaukee and I get caught in traffic ans see 210 degrees on a regular basis. `What temp is your second fan kicking in at? If I remember right, it is 210 when the second fan is supposed to from factory. So therefore your 160 degree thermostat isn't going to do anything for you unless you are going down the road.1995 Firebird 3.8 A4, 140,000 miles and going strong
Basically Stock, college=poor
Junior Mechanical Engineering Student: Milwaukee School of Engineering; Cpl, MN Army National Guard...just got promoted :)

Dekay,
Very easy to install the SLP switch. The instructions are simple and good. A search of this board will give you plenty of info. The most difficult part is running the wire through the firewall and that is simple on a 4th Gen. Simply remove the computer from the underhood passenger side of the firewall and there is a hole with gromet to run the wire through. Not hard at all.2001 Camaro M5 Coupe(1 of 2,737), no options, Whisper Lid, K&N Air Filter, Free Ram Air, MAFS Screen removed, SLP Manual Fan Switch, 160 thermo, DEE\'s T/B Spacer, EGR Block-off plate, IAT resistor, CAI to EGR air feed, B&M Ripper Shifter, SLP Replacement Grill, T/A Exhaust, SLP five spoke take-off wheels, BMR strut-tower brace, BMR Tunnel Brace, BMR 32/21 front & rear sway bars with poly, BMR Poly/Combo Rear Control Arms, Clear front & rear corners, HPP3 modified 87 Octane program.
http://www.cardomain.com/id/red2k1

I made one for free myself. Here are the instructions.I deviated in two ways from those instructions though.I bought a lighted switch so that I would know when the thing was on.This meant that I had to run a ground wire.No biggie. Also I didn't hook into a constant power source,I hooked a hot wire into the fuse for the radio so that the fan would only work when the key was on.Can I ask you a question though? Why do you run your heat? The hi fan comes on automatically when you turn on the AC.Good luck with whatever you decide.

i turn on the heat b/c it draws all the excess heat from the engine to cool it off. if you turn on your a/c while in traffic like that, it struggles to produce the cold air and it makes it heat up even quicker. here in Fl the heat index has been at like 105 degrees and if you sit at a red light or in traffic for too long it heats up quick.94 Firebird - Red A4
http://members.cardomain.com/predatorbird
