• How to Improve Gas Mileage on a 3.4L Bird?

What mods or alterations can i do to improve gas mileage/driveabiliy on a '94 3.4L M5 Firebird. Bone stock and in good working order. Car is driven all year round even through rain and snow.

how old are O2s? When I replaced mine on my 94 I gained like 3-4 mpg, and car ran better too.

also shifting at lower revs saves gas as well but then again you don't go as fast

50,000 miles i think..Replace them anyway, the difference in power and economy will be nice.Tire pressure should be about 30-35 PSI.Run a bottle of fuel system cleaner.Do a MAJOR tuneup,Air Filter,Fuel Filter,PCV Valve,Fresh fluids all around(Oil,Transmission,Differential),plugs/wires.What your average engine temp? Below 180 degrees will cause poor fuel economy.Stop flooring it,keep revs as low as possible and dont jam on the brakes.Clogged Catalytic converters also kill economy.Check it out along with all vaccumm lines.

Would the 1LE shaft off a 3rd gen car help the cars gas mileage any by reducing rotational mass.

You wont increase the mileage past the manufacterers rating...That just the way it is.Buy a Honda Civic for economy :D :D :D

well there is a chacne he is getting less then factory rating on high mileage car...

A msd would probably help a little but is it really worth dumping a few hundred just to save a few bucks on gas?

                O2s go like 50-75k...

you'll need a o2 socket, I hear autozone will lend one to you, the driver side was easy, the passenger was a little harder, I needed a universal elbo, and 2 extensions to geet a good angle and just used a big *** breaker bar to get torqu to it since it was at funny angles.

Seems a lotta' people neglected 2 mention, keepin' your throttle body cleaned out & Carbon free. I use STP's Throttle Body & Air Intake Cleaner, every so often, an' I noticed a pretty nice difference the 1st time. It gets all up in the plenum, etc. if U use it right, an' keeps it all nice an' clean. Only prob. is, on the 3.8L, it's a lil' difficult 2 spray up that big ol' Ding-Dong casting on the front O' the throttle body.
