  • 3.4l Running on 5 cyl......Whats the problem?

My camaro started with a really bad miss in it. My car has always had a little miss in it. Well now its bad. I got to run it in drive and it shakes the **** out of me. The car is officially running on 5 cyliders. Me and my dad have replaced plugs/wires/coil pack/ the cylinder's which isnt fireing injector. #2 cylinder by the way. All the cylinders register the same compression so it most likely isnt a burnt valve. The #2 plug fires when its laying in the wire but its not fireing when its under compression. Any ideas what it could be?

When the coils were replaced did you happen to check the ICM terminals for corrosion or weak connection? (you did replace the insulators right) At least being #2 it will be easy to check as it's the first coil.

Strange problem man.. the only thing I can think of is that deal the coils plug into, the name of it is escaping my brain right now.

            Those are expensive though.

That'd be the ICM, ignition control module. Yeah, the terminals can corrode or even get bent/break off.

Check eBay. I got a 3.4 ICM, 3 GM coils and a set of wires for $10 shipped.

Just swap the coils and see if the problem stays with cylinder 2 or it follows the coil.

Changed the ICM didnt accomplish nothing. We went to place this morning and put it on a computer. Signs are showing up that its the computer. New computer coming in Tuesday. People told my dad that car should be parked because it can ruin the cat running on 5?

might be dumb Q. If all the plugs are fireing and #2 injector isnt spraying fuel. How is unburned fuel going to make it to the cat if #2 injector isnt spraying?

I thought the ICM was the computer. If not what is the ICM and where is it located?

Ignition Control Module is the plate the coils plug onto. The "computer" usually refers to the ECM/PCM.
